Dr Amy Cohn

Dr Amy Cohn specialises in diseases of the retina, cataract surgery and general Ophthalmology.

Her areas of expertise include Diabetic Retinopathy, Age-Related Macula Degeneration, inherited eye disease and cataract. She has extensive experience with cataract surgery, intra-vitreal injections and retinal lasers.

Background

Dr Cohn obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with honours from the University of Melbourne in 2000. She undertook her internship and residency at the Royal Melbourne Hospital where she completed placements that included Cardiology, Intensive Care and Plastic Surgery. She then completed a Master of Medicine in Inherited Eye Disease at the Centre of Eye Research Australia which resulted in a number of publications and presentations both in Australia and internationally. She was admitted to the accredited ophthalmology training programme at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in 2005. After completing her basic ophthalmology training, Dr Cohn went on to work as a Senior Registrar at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and Monash Medical Centre. During this time she undertook an Anterior Segment and Cataract fellowship at Monash. She then relocated to London where for two years she was a Medical Retina Fellow at the renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital. She is thrilled to be back in Melbourne to continue her career.

Professional Credentials

Dr Cohn is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Ophthalmologists. She is a Visiting Medical Officer for both the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and Southern Health. She continues her interest in new advances in eye care as a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre of Eye Research Australia. Her current areas of research include Age-related Macula Degeneration, inherited eye conditions and diabetic retinopathy. She has published widely and delivered several papers at international conferences. She has been involved in teaching of new ophthalmology trainees at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and through Southern Health.

Beyond work

Dr Cohn is married with three children. She enjoys swimming, yoga and travel.
